"Gather
'round, lads.... gather 'round"... Around the 1st or 15th of each month, when I deem you are worthy, we put out our cheesy newsletter to inform the masses as to what's happening in the BMW K1300S, K1200S, GT, R, RS, S1000RR world and of course... Pirates' Lair. How else are you going to find out? If you want to subscribe and have
these sent via e-mail to your home or office just let us know at pirate@acelink.net .. otherwise you'll
get 95% of it here. Why only 95%? Because I tend to tell the brutal truth
as I see it on many issues/products and while I don't mind spewing "my
opinion" into your home, office or cell, I have no desire to slam, insult,
or malign any company, individual, competitor in public.. unless they blatantly deserve it.

The Latest Cheesy Pirates' Lair Newsletter: July 2011 |
Fellow esteemed and quasi-esteemed motorcyclists.... ..A famous (and slightly edited ) movie moment to start the month..... |
Arthur is standing
alone high on the hill, fully decked out in armor.. his flag waving in the
breeze. All eyes turn to him...Cedric stares questioningly to his second
in command Cynric and his scout who has just assured him that all the Knights
had fled... |
Cedric: A single knight. (Cedric grabs his British scout by the throat) Didn't
you just say they were gone? What is this? A ghost? |

The 2011 Blue
Ridge Parkway K12 / K13 Rally: Another Successful Event! The rally weather forecast was suspect from the get go, but in the end it turned out to be a non-issue. There was some rain... sun.. fog.. clouds.. spotty showers. About what you'd expect for this rally. I'd wager a guess that everyone is already thinking about the 2012 event which has already been scheduled. Details below in our upcoming rallies section... I have posted as many rally pics as I could plunder..er.. accumulate from the I-BMW site in our Pirates Lair Photo Album . It's the first album cleverly entitled.. Blue Ridge Parkway BMW Rally 2011 Enjoy! |

Pirates Lair Kawasaki Concours 14 Stealth Backrest!!! The Light At The End of the Tunnel! If all goes as planned our upcoming Kawasaki Concours 14 Stealth Backrest should be on the market by July 10th. We've just finished our testing phase of the project and so far.. everyone seems deliriously happy. Our testers made some helpful suggestions which will be integrated into the production pieces. I have to admit.. I'm really happy as to how this project has turned out. Look for advertising spots in various sport-touring magazines soon..ie.. Rider, Backroads, etc..Our first production run is in progress. Install of the Concours 14 stealth rack will be chimp easy taking all of 10 minutes with no mods. It's a simple bolt on. Here's the install. The backrest's polished stainless steel slide bar will slide on and off the bike in mere seconds (just like all our other specialty backrests) for a sleek and sexy look.. At the moment we still are NOT taking pre-orders as I'm unsure of a delivery date. However I'm pretty sure these will start shipping around July 10th or so. Price will be $365US delivered inside the US which puts it in line with all our other offerings. I will be glad to send updates to anyone interested as to progress and availability upon email request. |

Pirates Lair Saddles Up for the K1600GT & K1600GTL! Yippe Kiyaa! We at Pirates Lair are preparing for the onslaught of biz from new owners of the latest and greatest BMWs.. ie the K1600GT and K1600GTL with product sections for both bikes. You're not gonna catch us with our pants down!... Not that there's anything wrong with having your pants down. Some of my fondest memories involved being pantsless.. Ahhh yes... I remember this one time in Cairo when me and this young German hottie......er.. where was I?? O, yea.. The new six cylinders.. We're already getting parts requests from K16 owners all over the world. So far almost all have ordered our Nautilus air horns as apparently the factory horns are total crap. Guess that's not really a shocker if you've ever owned a BMW. We just got notice of the availability of Remus Slip-On's for the GT. I'm sure the GTL version will follow. You anxious new K16 farkel buyers should keep in mind that it'll take a few months for products to start showing up for the bike, but rest assured... we'll offer a full menu for both bikes. With or without pants. For a gander at our current (and admittedly small) product lines for the new BMWs. Point your mouse thisa way, pilgrim.... K1600GT or K1600GTL |

The Pirates Lair Wall Of Shame! “Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges!” Fellow speeders...er.. I mean "velocity aficionados". Over the last few years I've been collecting pictures of our beloved K bikes pulled over by the PoPo and suffering the indignity of getting written up. Unfortunately, many are my own. DOH! Some shots were pilfered from my buds over at www.I-BMW.com Last week I uploaded them all into a photo album called.. Pirate's Wall of Shame. |
What's
New In the K12 / K13 / S1000RR No-Spin Zone |
I should note that as the K1200RS and first generation K1200GT have been discontinued, I receive less and less news of any new products for them.. I mention this as a few semi-loyal subscribers have accused me of abandoning our roots.. Not true.. I only report what's going on.. Don't shoot the messenger.. I will NEVER abandon the K1200RS crowd. It appears that the times.. they are a changin.' Deal with it. Also.. a special thx to www.I-BMW.com, www.K-Bikes.com , and www.BMWK1200S.com for the information & pictures I regularly pilfer from these sites.. |
1. The guys at Rhinewest Performance, Inc... makers of the legendary Rhinewest Chip are producing one last production run of their performance chips for the BMW K1200RS and 2002-04 K1200GT. They are currently sold out. They actually were NOT gonna produce any more, but using an old Jedi mind trick, I talked them into both producing one last production run and saving a few droids. Once these last performance chips are gone there will be no more.. No amount of begging.. no amount of pleading.. no amount of crying.. no offers of BJs..well.. BJ's might do the trick, but otherwise. ..there will be a limited quantity available around July 5th. If you've been procrastinating on getting one.. Now's the time to get serious. In all my years selling these.. I've never met someone who didn't love the results. Me included. 2. As of 06/082011, Evoluzione has discontinued their K1200S / K1300S Clutch Slave Kits.. Ken Z (the Big Kahuna of Evo) explained to me that sales were slow and didn't justify placing another full production run. As the bikes have already been discontinued.. I can't blame him. Sorry to hear this.. |
3. Rizoma has some alternative foot pegs.. both front and rear available for the K1300R.. No idea why they don't have the K1300S or K1200S or K1200R listed as those bikes use the same factory foot pegs..?? If anyone finds out.. let me know.. 4. BMW Wallpapers.. Yours for the taking.. Arrrrg. 5. The K1600GT Remus Hexacone Slip-On exhaust kit is now available in a Titanium with Carbon Fiber end cap or in a full Carbon Fiber canister for the 2011-2012 K1600GT. Sweet. The Hexacone slip-ons offer a 4-5 hp gain, a 21lb weight loss, and a deep sexy sound. Need more? . The Remus Hexacone comes with a removable 'street legal' silencer. Both left and right side canisters, 2 connectors, and all mounting hardware is included. System retains centerstand capability and catalytic converters. Price is $1360.US delivered in the US for either the Titanium or Carbon Fiber Slip-Ons. Are you worthy? 6. We just got word that Sato Racing now has Rearset Kits for the BMW K1300S and K1300R with Shift Asisst!! Pirates Lair should have this new pricing info posted on thier web site shortly.. 7. Verholen of Germany now has 50mm bar risers available for the K1200S & K1300S. (See info/details below) The riser kit comes with a clutch cable extension like the 85mm version, but it will NOT require a longer brake line, unlike the 85mm kit. These will be a nice compromise option for those who want their bars only a little higher and a little closer to the rider. 8. Here's a very well done TPX Laser Jammer Install on BMW K1200S vid at YouTube. If anyone tries one of these devices.. please let me know what you think. |
9. For a YouTube Sound Clip of the new Remus Hexacone on a BMW K1600GT .. Click Here Sounds damn nice if you ask me!! 10. Planning a bike trip and want to ride the best roads in the area? Up until recently you're best bet in discovering those roads is to ask locals or seek advice on the various internet forums. Now there's a waaay cool alternative. MotocycleRoadsUSA.com provides state by state listings of some of the best scenic & twisty roads for motorcyclists, sports car drivers, tourists, and other travelers. They list over 3000 roads in all 50 states! It's the most comprehensive listing on the internet or so they claim. The site is chimp easy to navigate. Once you click on the state you are interested in, and the region of that state, you're given a color coded map showing roads designated as scenic, sweeping curves, twisties, and unpaved. Then you click on the specific road and they give exact directions on getting there, detailed description of what to expect, and rider reviews of the specific road. Sweet!! |
What's
New at Pirates' Lair? |
1. News for 2002-2005 BMW K1200GT Owners wanting Synto Levers for your bikes. Due to an influx of requests.. I love that word.. "influx... Rarely get to use it.. Where was I? O, yea... we've been working with Synto to put together a lever kit for the early version GT's and now have them on the menu and have sold a few pair. Having heard from customers who got the kits, we determined that these kits do NOT bring the levers closer to the grips in case you are like me and buying them because you have small hands. However.. we are told by testers that the kits do offer a better feel because of the shape... and of course, they look spanktacular.. Duh. 2 I don't think these words have ever escaped my lips... "You need to make your tits smaller." But before you go thinkin' I've gone "Neil Patrick Harris" on ya.. (not that there's anything wrong with that).. I'm talking about the tit on the rear swingarm support bar on some K1300S's while trying to install one of our Pirates Lair Torque Arms. We have had (2) reports of foreign K1300Ss with a minor clearance issue with the swingarm support bar tit. (See pic). One in Canada.. one in Dubai. On my K1200S arm I have about 1/32"-1/16th" clearance which is what you're supposed to have. The fix is simple. Take a file and shave off just enough of the tit for clearance with the torque arm. Takes all of a minute...Some times small tits are better. Just sayin. |
3. As of 06/10.2011, K1200S / K1300S Clutch Slave Kits made by Evoluzione are SOLD OUT and discontinued..We can not get more.. No begging.. no pleading.. no offers of BJs.. although... 4. The guys at Rhinewest Performance, Inc... makers of the legendary Rhinewest Performance Chip are producing one last production run. There will be a limited quantity becoming available as of around July 5th. If you've been procrastinating on getting one.. Now's the time to get serious. If you've got a K1200RS and want to make it all it can be.... add 10 more HP, add torque, make the powerband completely linear.. this is the way to go. I had one in my RS and it rocked my world. For customer comments we've received on them.. Click here... 5. Own a BMW K1200RS or late K1200GT and need/want some replacement mirrors?? Tired of those fugly Mickey Mouse ears? We may have an alternative for you soon. We have an aftermarket pair incoming for evaluation. Here's what they look like on his K1200RS. Price will be under $60 for the pair. Simple install with no mods. They'll bolt to your bike just like the factory mirrors. Our tester says they offer less vibration than stock. Win/Win! Stay tuned |
6. New K1600GT Product Alert! The K1600GT Remus Hexacone Slip-On exhaust kit is now available in a Titanium with Carbon Fiber end cap or in a full Carbon Fiber canister for the 2011-2012 K1600GT. Sweet. The Hexacone slip-ons offer a 4-5 hp gain, a 21lb weight loss, a deep sexy sound, and longer lasting erections. Need more? Your O2 sensor remains plugged into your factory header. For a YouTube Sound Clip of the new Remus Hexacone on a BMW K1600GT .. Click Here Sounds damn nice if you ask me!! Are you worthy? 7. The US dollar is in the crapper.. No surprise there. The Australian dollar not so much. That's the #1 reason why prices of Staintunes are soaring. We just received a painful notice that the price of the BMW K1200RS / GT Staintune Exhaust just went from .. you may want to sit down for this... are you sitting?.... $1800US to $2300US!! Shaka.. when the walls fell! |
8. Thinking about a Throttlemeister for your BMW K1300S, K1200R, K1200S, but not sure if they are compatible with your aftermarket bars? Here's some newly gathered news.. Throttlemeisters are compatible with K1200S & K1300S Heli-Bars. Click Here for a View and IDI Designs Risers for the BMW K1300S, K1200R, K1300S. 9. We've been selling Verholen K1200S / K1300S 85mm bar risers for a few years now. Wonderful product. We just got word that they are now offering a 50mm version. The kit will need a clutch cable extensions like the 85mm version, but it will NOT require a longer brake line, unlike the 85mm kit. We already have them on our menu as a special order item. Hope to have some in stock shortly. These will be a nice compromise option for those who want their bars only a little higher and a little closer to the rider. Thx, Wyatt for the intel gathering. 10 Pirates Lair does Facebook.. Woop dee freakin' do... Guess it was inevitable and unavoidable as congress wanting to raise the dept ceiling.. again. I'll post new product updates daily (if I can remember) and Amber plans on making daily weather reports for riders coming into the area.. Would you be our friends? Stop in and say hello!! It'll make Amber happy.. She likes to be poked. |
11. In my never ending quest to keep youz guyz and galz informed.. we just got word that ZTechnik has 2 new VStream windshields out for the S1000RR.. A Tall Touring Screen (comes in clear only) and a Sport Touring shield (dark tint only). I've already got them on our menu with full specs. |
12. R1150R Owners Wanting our Stealth Backrest: Yes.. we discontinued them 3 years ago. and No.. we're not gonna produce any more, but here's an idea for those who've been wanting one of our backrests... While I do NOT get enough requests to order another full production run (60 pieces) of these.. I still get a lot of random requests.. At least 2-3 a month and I always hate turning fellow riders down.. Especially regarding a backrest which will usually make their passengers lives a lot better and the ride more enjoyable. With that said.. last night I had an epiphany hence this note. Rather than me sit on the CNC plans for our R1150R Stealth backrest bracket and not use them, I'm gonna offer them for sale to anyone who might want to pursue producing some of these. A determined soul could probably come up with a few other R1150R owners who might split the cost of producing a handful. With that said.. I'm asking $800 for the plans which is a little less than it cost me to have our R & D people to originally draw them up. It's a proven design with at least 3000 sold while they were in production.. Plans would be complete CNC drawings and specs of our bracket on disk and and the sole owner of the purchaser. I'd be more than glad to furnish the actually backrests parts (which we do still produce) and/or advice as to what you'd need to make things happen. If interested.. email me |
