There aren't many inherent faults with the mighty BMW K1600. It truly is a great motorcycle. However, most know by now that the shift throw is overly long. Missing shifts due to the long shift throw? Clunkiness? It's a common problem on the mighty K16s that BMW should have solved at the factory. Fret not, my friends.. Now there is a solution.. The K1600 Short Throw Shifter Kit from DMAC Machining.

This US-made kit will shorten the overly long gear shift throw of any 2010-2017 BMW K1600GT or K1600GTL substantially making upshifts quicker, easier, crisper, and dare I say it...as good as any Japanese bike. Trust me.. it makes all the difference in the world. Installation, while detailed, is very straight forward (see link below) using basic tools. Basically, the kit just modifies the shifter linkage.

K1600GT Kit : With the raised foot peg position the GT it has a bit shorter shift throw from the factory than the GTL but at a total of 47mm there is much room for improvement. The DMAC Short Throw Shift Kit for the GT will shorten the total shift throw by roughly 10mm, completely changing the feel of changing gears. Shifting is more “crisp” helping reduce the “clunking”, particularly in the lower rev ranges. . Fits every model year BMW K1600GT thru 2017. These will NOT fit the 2018+ model...

K1600GTL Kit : (pic at right) The early model (’12-’13) GTL, has a total shift throw of nearly 70mm. This long shift throw has the effect of making the K1600 transmission feel unnecessarily “clunky” when changing gears. BMW apparently recognized the problem and made a change to the ’14-’17 GTL models by shortening the transmission (upper) lever to reduce the total shift throw to 57mm. While it was an improvement, due to the physical restraints in this area of the bike and the single straight link it can’t really go far enough. The DMAC Short Throw Shift Kit will accommodate both variants of the GTL and will reduce the total shift throw by roughly 32mm on the early models and 18mm on the later models. Shifting is more “crisp” helping reduce the “clunking”, particularly in the lower rev ranges. Fits every model year BMW K1600GTL thru 2017. These will NOT fit the 2018+ model..
