First:
Installation was a snap. I did mine with the rack on the bike and it only
took about 15 minutes, as you estimated in your instructions. I think its
a lot faster than removing the rack; however you do have limited space to
access the front two bolts when tightening, so you have to use a regular
allen wrench or something with a swivel head. Second: My wife sat on the seat and says its placement was perfect for fit and comfort. Third: Looks are very nice. Of course the Rhino coated production version will be better. I did notice the notched cutouts on the front corners are not required since the bracket sits on top of the existing rack. They serve no purpose. I think it would look better just rounded off. Bottom Line: I think youve come up with a great product, and after some tweaking it will be even better. I hope you sell hundreds. Im sorry I didnt get to road test it for you and hope some of my comments will help. Feel free to use any pictures or comments you want for advertising. Finally,
finally, finally! I installed the backrest just this evening! Installation
was simple (once you had the prerequisite beer). I also installed the backrest
without a hitch. It looks great - sharp, and doesn't distract from the
bike...actually if you like naked, I think it actually adds something.
But, the Rhino Coat will be a great addition. Unlike your other tester,
I kinda liked the notches on top...haven't take a real good look at the
coat or the edges...will do so tomorrow when the sun returns. I'll also
will hopefully get some pics to you tomorrow as well - since Murphy's Law
hit my camera batteries (recharging as I type). One more item...perhaps
Sargent will offer the cover in different styles??? BTW.. I gave it a trial
run on center stand and I think it's rather comfortable. My pillion rider
will hopefully give it a go next weekend... Prototype Tester /Kim Birdsall / Santa Fe, NM / R1100R |
My partner
and I were anxious to try the rack out immediately. If you remember, she's
the one that claimed she wouldn't ride with me on my R1100R without a backrest.
Installation was straightforward. She is now a happy woman. Over
the next 3 days, we put approx 260 miles. Included were travel on highways,
expressways, and dirt roads. The rack performed well with no noticeable
vibration or loosening from vibration. She expressed happiness that it gave
her a more secure feeling and comfort to her lower back. We have decided to take the prototype. It's a well built rack that promises to give a lot of years of sturdy performance, yet will allow me to easily take it off when I'm riding alone. Besides, she won't ride with me unless it's on there.. So.. bill me and thanks for the opportunity to possess your R1100R Stealth backrest. Sorry
it took so long to get back to you on the backrest. I was out of town on
business and just got a chance to install it and get my wife to test it
out. It took me about 20 minutes to install it but some of that time was
used up trying to retrieve a bolt from a difficult spot it had decided to
fall into. The next one could be done in 1/2 that time. I decided to leave
the rack on the bike for the install and believe I would remove it next
time. The rack fits very well and looks great. It got the 2 thumbs up from
my wife who doesn't like to ride on the back of any bike but consented to
try it out. It has also made a convient place to lash some small boxes I
had to deliver for work. The height was just right for my wife and she felt
very comfortable with it. I have attached some photo's sorry no scantily
clad women. I'll buy the prototype, just let me know the price. Prototype Tester / Bob Stubbs / Andover, MN / 99 R1100 |
