Verholen K1200RS/GT Short Shift Kit Customer Comments |
Jerry, I
just received the Protector in silver & the Short Shifter. I wanted
to say thank you very much. The items were received quite fast and they're
exactly what I was hoping they would be. That Short Shifter is the greatest
item I've ever seen for a K12RS. My bike shifts with just the shortest stroke
possible and I can't believe the tremendous difference it makes. It's well
worth the $205!!!! It was also extremely easy to install. .I could not be
happier with my order and the customer service you've given. Thanks once
again!! A miracle has happened...the bikes shifts fast and smooth. Jonathan Halverson / 2003 K1200RS / Gilbert, AZ |
I have to
admit.. I was skeptical when I ordered my Verholen shift kit.. Had not realized
how sloppy the KRS shifts until I bought my MV Agusta. The comparison makes
the KRS seem like a Neanderthal. OK.. Spent the bucks, took the 1 hour to
install it and within the first 3 gear upshifts I was sold.. Difference
is like night and day. The shift throw is, I'd guess, about 70-80% less
making it now the quickest shifting bike I have ever ridden.. Even faster
shifting than my F4. I still can't believe it. Spoiled and admit it. Wish
I had known about this kit 3 years ago, dammit...My thumbs up. Jerry (Pirate) Finley / 1998 K1200RS / Fairview, NC |
Great modification.
Easy to install but need to be sure the shifter part which attaches to the
splined transmission shifter out of the housing is about parallel with the
ground. Otherwise downshifts wont happen. I got it straightened out real
quick and works real smooth and quick now. I have added an extender also
and is totally comfortable and responsive. Is amazing the factory couldn't
figure this one out. Bob Federspiel / 1998 K1200RS / Delray Beach, FL |
Well
I've put a few hundred miles on this sucker since Sat. At first I didn't
like it much. Finding neutral was a bitch! But then I've 6+ years and
93k miles of shifting habits to break. So I've been working on my technique.
Upshifts are a no brainer and those blip blip double downshifts as you
put a knee down taking the expressway off ramp ...aaahhhhhhhhh ;-) I had
problems initially with downshifting as a I approached a stop. I used
to put gentle pressure on the lever and let it slip down a cog. No workie
now. Must instead give it a light tap. Finding neutral is much better
now that I'm getting to master the gentle micro-tap needed from 2nd. Bottom
line: I like it! Cant wait to really work it over on the BRP next year.

I did receive
and install the shifter kit. It took me a little longer because I was picky
about fine tuning the position of the shifter which required a couple of
adjustments to the little link rod. I have big hands and even with the exhaust
shield off its tight quarters in there. I only rode around the neighbor
hood, (Im getting ready to go for a longer ride now), but this thing
is awesome! I love the short throw. Even though its a little on the
pricey side, (isnt everything for a BMW?), It is well made and the
functionality is great! Take care, Happy New Year! Follow-Up: My first real test of the shifter kit was Friday. I had pole position at a light that open up onto hwy 65 a very straight and unobstructed stretch of highway with no one in sight ahead. So, naturally, I nailed it off the line and keeping a sharp eye on the tach I got through the gears pretty quickly. When I looked at he speedo I was doing 120 MPH in what seemed to be not more than 4-5 seconds. I was far from out of acceleration but it seemed prudent not to tempt fate and radar etc. I am extremely pleased with it. Im sure that if someone were trying to drastically improve their 0-60 times, that this thing would be a must. Thanks again. Michael Russell / 2001 K1200RS / Roseville, CA |
Just installed
the Verholen short shift kit on my 2003 K1200 GT. I purchased it at the
suggestion of another Pirates Lair customer and I must say this makes up
shifting GREAT! I missed so many first to second up shifts with the standard
BMW long throw linkage that I was actually thinking of selling the bike
and take a loss that's how much I hated shifting it. The install was really
no problem. The hex head bolt that holds the linkage to the transmission
shaft is a bit-ch to get to and remove. This made the project about one
and a half hours in length. But what a difference! The Verholen short shift
mechanism really makes up shifting and down shifting a piece of cake. Mike Colburn / 2003 K1200RS / Boston, Mass |
At whatever
price,, the k12 shift kit is worth it, what a blessing. Damn thing shifts
as good as my really high dollar bikes, well almost as good. Thx, Gary Gary Gagliano / 2003 K1200RS / Vacaville, CA |
Love the Verholen quick shift kit you sold me. What a difference! Dominic Conti / 2003 K1200RS / Greensburg, Pa |
Hey Jerry, had to send a note to tell you that the Verholen short shifter is nothing less than brilliant! Why I did not install one of these on my original K12 is beyond me. What a difference this makes. It changes the whole personality of the bike. Worth every penny. Thanks. Scott Stubble / 2003 K1200RS / Costa Mesa, CA |
