R1200GS Stealth Backrest® Installation

We have designed the R1200GS Stealth Backrest® to be a very easy install. Basically.. (4) screws secure our bracket to the factory rack

Warranty Pirates' Lair will replace the bracket or internal hardware FREE of CHARGE for a period of ONE YEAR from date of purchase should your bracket or internal pieces break. As of this writing, I would assume that the good people at Sargent Cycle will warranty the upholstery portion as well. Questions? 828.628.7093 EST

Included:
(1) R1200GS Stealthrest Bracket
(1) Upholstered Backrest
(4) 8 x 35mm stainless steel socket head cap screws, locking nuts, bonded washers
(1) Plastic quick release securing knob (with optional short 1/4" securing screw)
(1) Install instructions

Step 1 : Getting Started / Install

1. Remove your seat.
2. Clean the factory rack from all dirt. Window cleaner is fine. We furnish a vinyl undercoating to protect your factory rack finish, we don't want to take any chances.
At this time, adhere the plastic strips to the bottom of the bracket or directly to your rack. Your choice.

Step 2: R1200GS Stealth Bracket Installation

Note: I'll leave it up to you, but I would recommend using a drop of Blue LOCK-TITE on the screws you are about to install. The Stealth Bracket is designed to remain on the bike semi-permanently.

1. Place the GS Stealth bracket on the rear rack. Pass the screws through the washer, through the top of the bracket/plate, and through the bike's rack. Install 2 bolts (with bonded washers) through the right (or left side) mounting holes. Doesn't matter which. Get two screws started, but do NOT tighten them down.

2. Now, install the other 2 screws on the other side. The "arms" on our rack will bend to conform to your rack. Get ALL (4) screws started before tightening anything. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. Just use common sense. Snug and a 1/4 turn should do. Remember.. the factory rack is PLASTIC!

Step 3: Backrest Usage

1. Slide the backrest all the way in.
2. Lock it in place with your furnished securing screw.
3. Reinstall seat
Only one screw is needed to secure the backrest to the bike

WARNING: Caution should be used when sliding the backrest on and off the bike. If your seat is in place, the abrasive action of the slide bar against the seat material will cause long term damage. Always place something between your seat and slide bar when installing or removing. Se comprende? Pirates' Lair will not be responsible for replacing seats that have been damaged due to the neglect on "your" end.
