Stainless Steel Application Chart for the BMW K1200RS from Pirates' Lair

Your K1200RS Stainless Steel Fastener kit includes the following applications. Pictured below is the 97-2001 Kit. The 2002 Kit is similar in content although NOT identical. Obviously, this kit does NOT include replacements for every fastener on the bike. Price considerations make that impossible. However, this kit of over 100 pieces replaces every visible fastener on the bike. FYI... I have to order through 5 different vendors to put this kit together. You will notice that I have taken the liberty of replacing some of the uglier hex type bolts with low-head fasteners. This gives the bike a sleeker look and a more uniform appearance. Note: The torque values listed in the chart below are NOT meant to be used with factory fasteners.

WARNING: The torque values listed in the application chart below are for A2 Class 70 STAINLESS FASTENERS ONLY!

1. TORQUE ARM Location: Right Side/Rear (2) 10 x 50mm Low-head Socket (2) 10mm hex nuts, (2) nylon washers & (2) ss washers Torque: To frame- 30Nm / 22.1 ft lbs Torque: To Swingarm- 30Nm / 22.1 ft lbs Note: In this application, I have chosen to replace the ugly factory bolts with Low-head socket bolts. Also, I have included optional nylon washers to protect the finish of the aftermarket and/or polished torque arms that many K12 riders have such as the one pictured here..
2. REAR CALIPER Location: Right Side/Rear Brake (2) 10 x 40 mm Socket head Top 2 bolts Torque: 30Nm / 22.1 ft lbs (2) 10 x 25mm Socket head Bottom 2 bolts Torque: 20Nm /14.8ft lbs WARNING: Replacing these bolts can be risky. See Disclaimer To minimise risk, the upper caliper bolts should be removed and replaced one at a time to insure that the caliper inner seals/0-rings are not broken.
3. REAR BRAKE LEVER Location: Right Side (1) 10 x 35mm Button head (1) 10mm washer Torque: 30Nm /22.1 ft lbs Note: It is important to use the furnished #243 Loctite for this application.
4. FRONT FENDER Location: Top & Bottom of front fender (2) 6 x 25mm Socket head Torque: 6.3Nm / 4.6 ft lbs (2) 5 x 12mm Button head Torque: 3Nm / 2.2 ft lbs / 26.6 in lbs
5. BRAKE CYLINDER Location: R side on foot peg bracket (2) 6 x 16mm Socket head Torque: 6.3Nm / 4.6 ft lbs
6. REAR FRAME Location: L & R side on foot peg bracket (2) 8x 40mm Socket head (2) 8mm Nuts Torque: 16Nm / 11.8 ft lbs
7. FORK AXLE CLAMP Location: L & R side lower end by axle (2) 8 x 40mm Socket head Torque: 16Nm / 11.8 ft lbs
8. PEG BRACKET RUBBER Location: L & R side end of foot peg carrier (4) 4 x 10mm Socket head Torque: 3.8Nm / 2.8 ft lbs
9. REAR ABS SENSOR Location: R side rear on hub/shaft body (1) 5 x 15mm Socket head Torque: 4Nm / 3.0 ft lbs / 35.4 in lbs
10. FRONT ABS SENSOR Location: L side at brake caliper (2) 5 x 12mm Socket head Torque: 4Nm / 3.0 ft lbs / 35.4 in lbs
11. R. PEG BRACKET Location: L & R side supporting REAR PEGS (3) 8 x 20mm Socket head (1) 8 x 30mm Socket head & Nut Torque: 16Nm / 11.8 ft lbs NOTE: The 8x30mm goes on the L side lower frame bracket.
12. FOOT PEG RUBBER Front & Rear Pegs Location: Underneath ALL 4 foot pegs (8) 5 x 12mm Socket head Torque: 4Nm / 3.0 ft lbs / 35.4 in lbs
13. FOOT PEG CARRIER Front Peg Carrier ONLY Location: Left & Right Side (6) 8 x 25mm Socket head (6) 8 mm Belleville Washers Torque: 16Nm / 11.8 ft lbs
14. FRONT ROTORS (10) 8 x 25mm Button head (1) Locktite 243 Torque: 16Nm / 11.8 ft lbs Note: I have decided to replace the factory Torx with these Button heads due to cost factor.The cost of stainless Torx were 12 times the price and would have necessitated doubling the price of the entire SS kit. It is important to use the furnished #243 Loctite for this application.
15. FRONT CALIPER (4) 10 x 25mm Socket head To Forks Torque: 30Nm / 22.1 ft lbs (4) 8 x 50mm Socket head Inside cal. bolts Torque: 20Nm / 14.8 ft lbs (4) 8 x 65mm Socket head Outside cal. bolts Torque: 20Nm / 14.8 ft lbs WARNING: Replacing these bolts can be risky. See Disclaimer To minimize risk, these bolts should be removed and replaced one at a time starting with the inside to insure that the caliper inner seals/o-rings are not broken.
16. REAR SHOCK Lower Bolt ONLY (1) 10 x 65mm Low head (1) 10 mm washers (1) 10mm flanged nut Torque: To Swingarm... 30Nm / 22.1 ft lbs

17. FAIRING SCREWS

(14) 5 x 16mm Button head (Long)
(9) 5 x 12mm Button head (Short)
Torque: 3Nm / 2.2 ft lbs / 26.6 in lbs
Note: Furnished screws for pictured areas ONLY. I have not furnished screws for hidden areas or for areas where a black screw would be visibly preferable as in the lower front cowling area.
