Verholen
Electric / Manual Handlebar Comments Page

| I'm
sorry it has taken me so long to respond and give you some info on the
handlebars. So, here it is.I love the Verholen Handlebars! They have allowed
me to ride the greatest bike in the world. The cost is a little pricey,
however, the quality of these bars is exceptional. I feel that they are
well worth the money. The installation was performed by the dealer and
at first they had a little trouble routing the throttle cables (2002 model
- 2 ea.). After the initial installation, I could only get 40mm of adjustment.
I brought the bike back to the dealer for the 600mi check, and they re-routed
the cables and now all is well. With the manual bars, they will adjust
out to 70 mm, not the 80mm as advertised. Possibly the electric bars have
different stops. The bike with the Verholen Handlebars and Wilbers shocks
is totally different than a stock K1200. The seat height is now 29 inches
and for the vertically challanged like myself, the bike "fits".
I promise I will take some pictures soon, as soon as I borrow the digital
camera from school, and email you close-up photos of the installations. Gary Giacobbi / 2002 K1200RS / Cogan Station, Pa |
| A few
weeks ago I was at Verholen in Germany with two other KRS-riders. His
shop is only 15 miles from my home, just across the border. Verholen showed
us lots of nice stuff he makes for our K but the one that I liked most
was the manual adjustable handlebars. They look great and they work great.
The technical quality and finish is of a very high level. It is remarkeble
how smooth the adjustment works. There is absolutely no space between
the moving parts. Looks and feels like it's something NASA build. But
it is pricey. The price he asked for it was 600,- dollar. Together with
the installation and a longer brakeline it would cost me about 800,- dollar.
I hesitated a while but didn't buy them. Instead I went for the 'cheap'
bar-backs. Damn. Bas Rutten / 2000 K1200RS / Austria |
| the
Verholen adjustable risers that Karen arranged for me via the Sydney agent
are nothing short of excellent. Quality is superb and they have changed
the bike totally for me. Great stuff would recommend to anyone who wants
a lift in his GT life. John McBratney / 2003 K1200GT / Queensland, Australia |
| Well,
the "manual" Verholens are installed, and work great. They are
beautifully made, and though they look a bit weird when extended, they
ease my arm and shoulder problems, and that's the name of the game. They
took extensive re-routing of cables and wires - more than the stated:
"Clip some zip ties" - by the expert BMW mechanic who has done
all my work for over 25 years. Bottom line: They do fit, and they DO work!
Forgive my previous skepticism. Conrad M. Kay / 2002 K1200RS / Arlington, Tx |
| The
Verholen Manual Bars are great. I haven't installed the longer brake line
yet but still enjoy the flexibility of the bars. Definitely a first class
product. Thanks for your support and great service... Daryl Miyasaki / 2001 K1200RS / San Jose, Ca. |

| The
bars came with instructions in German. It took the dealer, Extreme Motorcycles,
about 3 hours to install them.. They also could not be raised to full
extention because the left side stock cables were not long enough. My
left bar is set about an inch lower than my right bar...but still they're
a lot more comfortable than before. May see if I can clip some zip ties
to get another inch of factory cable length. Will advise. ...I also want
to thank you for your great service and follow-up. Larry Peterson / 2003 K1200GT / Erwin, TN |
