Replacing any bolts on a motorcycle involves certain risks. The factory bolts were chosen specifically for their application. Could have been for strength ..or durability .. or even cost. We'll never know and BMW certainly wouldn't tell us. The bolts in this kit were chosen for cosmetic reasons only. Replacing them may be hazardous to your health. |
When replacing your factory steel bolts with these stainless fasteners, be advised of the following "possible" concerns. Keep in mind, I am mentioning worse case scenarios as to cover my ass and to leave the decision making where it belongs... in your hands. |
1. Replacing the bolts that hold the front and rear brake calipers together is risky. (See #15 & 2 on application chart) Do it and the calipers might leak....a baaaad thing. Calipers are expensive. A leaking caliper is dangerous. |
2. Bolt Strength: Stainless bolts are NOT as strong as the factory fasteners. Consequently, that means that the factory torque values no longer apply. For those who want the specific SS recommended torque values, they will be furnished in every kit. |
3. The electrolytic interaction between stainless and aluminum can result in corrosion. |
Bottom
line... it's up to you to decide if the risks of enhancing your bike's
beauty are worth it.
