Obtaining the Control Unit Numbers: The control unit on BMW R motorcycles is located underneath the fuel tank. The fuel tank must be removed to view the control unit and retrieve the control unit numbers. The picture at right shows the control unit in the R1150RT. The control unit is located directly in front of the ABS control unit. On bikes without ABS the control unit is located in front of the battery.

In order to determine which chip you need and to save us both a lot of trouble, locate the control unit #'s BEFORE ordering. The control unit numbers are printed on the front of the control unit. There are seven different numbers printed on the cover of the unit. We are concerned with only the bottom seven digit number. The picture (bottom right) shows an arrow pointing to the control unit number of 1 342 509.
