Frequently Asked Questions:
|
| .Q.
Is there a difference in the sound between the Ti cans
and the aluminum? A. All of our canisters sound the same. They are NOT loud, but a little louder than all the other offerings on the market as they are less restrictive.. hence the HP. One customer discribed the sound as.. Baadass. For comparison WAV files...e-mail me direct at pirate@acelink.net and I'll send you before and after sound bytes. I can send either as stand alone WAV's or inclosed in a ZIP file. Please state your preference with request |

Is there a weight difference between the Ti and Aluminum
cans? A. The titanium canisters weight about one pound less than the aluminum ones. |
| Q.
Is there a slot for the 02 sensor to screw in? A. Yes... the stock sensor screws directly into the header section. On the Two Bros system, the sensor outlet is located about 8 inches further back and re-routing is required, but.. it will reach. One customer says that it's easier to disconnect the 02 sensor where it plugs into the bike and then do your wire routing to the pipe before plugging it back into the bike. I like the sound of that. |
| Q.
Will the Two Bros system eliminate my catalytic converter? A. Yes and about 13lbs total. |
| Q.
Will the Two Brothers system void my warranty? A. I have never heard of ANY dealer voiding a warranty due to an aftermarket system, but... if you have any doubts/concerns, I'd ask your dealer. |

I hear you have to pack these every so often. What's
the story? A. Repacking depends on how the bike is ridden. The more you ride the more frequent the repacks will be. To set a benchmark, once the canister has about 4-5k miles on it, I would open it up to assess the internals. When a quarter of the packing is burned (measuring from the inlet towards the outlet) the muffler should be repacked. Two Brothers offers a repack kit for \\$19.98. The kit comes complete with fiber glass, drill bit, and rivets. Repacking the muffler is a snap and takes about 20 to 30 minutes (depending on skill level). If the end user doesn't want to do the repack, they can do it for you. There is the additional charge of \\$25.00 (for labor) plus return freight, turn around is about two days. With that said... if you ride 10K a year.. you'll pack it maybe twice..and it'll take you about 1 hour to do the job. |

If I want to do the install myself, do instructions
come with the exhaust kit? A. Yes... or at http://www.twobrothersracing.com/ |
| Q.
Will the standard sized BMW bags fit with the Two Brothers
Racing exhaust system?" A. Yes, the stock bags fit perfectly with the Two Brothers systems. |
| Q.
Will non-BMW aftermarket bags fit with your exhaust system? A. No idea... |
| Q.
What is the weight savings over the stock exhaust system?
A. About 13 lbs. |
|
Q.
How long should I expect for install time? |
| Q.
During install.. Do I need to replace the old gaskets?
A. Yes...Pry out the old gaskets and replace with new BMW OEM (x4) exhaust port gaskets. A dab of grease will help hold the gaskets in place while you work. |
| Q.
What, if any is the pattern for re-tightening the header bolts?
A. Good question...install the header nuts starting at the rear/outside stud and working your way forward on the outside set of studs. Once that is finished repeat along the inside set of studs. |
| Q.
I know that at some point I'll be taking the can off
for re-packing. Is there any way to make this easier from the get go? A. Yes...Place a bead of high temperature silicon sealant on the end of the headers. Wipe off any excess silicon sealant. Using the silicon sealant makes installation and any future disassembly easier and creates a nice, tight seal. |
| Q.
Can the placards be removed? A. They are riveted on but I can order them WITHOUT the logo. I'd guess that 70% prefer them without..so that's what we generally keep in stock. |
| Q.
I've heard that you should disconnect the battery prior
to the install. Is there any truth to this? and why? A. The word coming from the tech department at BMW is that when a new pipe is installed, the battery should be disconnected for at least a half hour. This presumably causes the on-board fuel injection chip to lose it's self-programming that it created with the original pipe and to be fresh for a re-program with the characteristics of the new pipe upon start up. The chip doesn't know or care who made the pipe.. it's just adjusting to it as it did with the original pipe. |

I see Two Brothers offers two sizes of Oval Canisters...
do you offer both? A. Yes.. we usually only keep the C-5 in stock as they outsell the smaller oval by 10-1. The smaller oval does NOT offer the same hp. |
